Alan Kent

BSc (Hons) CPFA

Alan is a managing consultant, qualified accountant and graduate of Imperial College, University of London. He spent 11 years working in local government finance followed by 6 years senior experience in NHS financial management. Since 1992 he has been working as a management consultant specialising in the health sector. Alan originally moved into consultancy from the position of finance director in a large acute hospital in the NHS. As a management consultant, he has extensive health sector experience having worked with acute and non-acute Trusts, commissioners and the primary care sector. Alan has a particular interest and expertise in financial modelling and service appraisal.

Alan has project managed a wide range of projects including work with substantive and applicant Foundation Trusts, for example IBP development and marketing strategies. He has provided financial and general consultancy input and project managed a wide range of SOCs, outline and full business case submissions. Recent projects include: perinatal services, community hospital and polyclinic developments, and mental health service developments.

He project managed the development of capacity plans for high and medium secure services across England and Wales for the Department of Health. Work with commissioners includes supporting the implementation of Practice based Commissioning and undertaking a benchmarking review of service costs and expenditure leading to the identification of as £20M savings programme. Alan has worked with a number PCT Boards on board development. Examples of financial modelling projects include major service reviews (acute and mental health), as well as non-clinical support services.
