Rachel Stanfield

BA (Hons), MPhil

Rachel is an experienced health service manager and consultant. She has a first class degree from the University of Sheffield, and a Masters in health services research from Bath University. As a senior manager at a London teaching hospital, she managed all aspects of operational delivery, leading change and performance management. She worked closely with clinical leads to develop clinical strategy and to implement key service developments.

Rachel has a broad range of consulting experience, incorporating projects in primary care, mental health, the acute sector, and independent healthcare. She has particular experience in supporting Foundation Trust applications, and has undertaken the market assessment work for a number of successful applications. This work has required close working and communication with key clinical and managerial staff, as well as the use of research and analytical skills, and a robust understanding of the NHS environment.

Rachel's recent successes include the delivery of a clinical and marketing strategy for a large acute trust. Rachel's input was pivotal, from the beginning of the strategy work in 2006 right through to the implementation of the marketing plan in 2008. The assignment required significant organisational, project management and communication skills, and Rachel's input included the co-ordination and delivery of a series of interviews with over 30 clinical staff, including one to one interviews and focus group work. The output was a clear, documented foundation for a clinical strategy, and was widely owned in the organisation as a result of the input Rachel secured from all the key individuals. Rachel went on to support the development of a clear marketing strategy and implementation plan for the organisation.

Rachel is currently the interim project manager for the development phase of the English patient safety campaign, due to launch in summer 2008. She is co-ordinating the development of the campaign across three organisations - the National Patient Safety Agency, The Health Foundation, and the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement.
